Explain the social and economic effects of westward expansion on Native Americans; including opposing views on land ownership, Native American displacement, the impact of the railroad on the culture of the Plains Indians, armed conflict, and changes in federal policy
CCR Standards: Reading Anchor Standards 1 & 9, Writing Anchor Standards 1, 4, 6 & 8
Your task: You have been asked to write a blog entry, either defending or condemning the Dawes Act of 1887 and its effect on the Native Americans, and explaining with facts why you feel this way. Did it help them or hurt them?? Remember: This will be read by hundreds of people, so you must give evidence from the text/video to support your viewpoint.
Steps you will be following: In order to plan and write your letter, you will do all of the following:
