Time Frame: 2 days
Essential Question: What was the impact of immigrants to America in the 1880's and early 1900's?
SC Social Studies Standards: 5-3.3
Summarize the significance of large-scale immigration to America, including the countries from which the people came, the opportunities and resistance they faced when they arrived, and the cultural and economic contributions they made to the United States.
CCR Standards: Reading Anchor Standards 1 & 9, Writing Anchor Standards 1, 4, 6 & 8
Your task: You are to create a power point with at least five (5) slides that looks at immigration into this country between the years of 1880 and 1930. Be sure that your power point answers these questions:
1) Who were the immigrants to the United States during this time?
2) Where did they go to be processed before they could enter the country (both in New York and California)?
3) Where did they live?
4) How did they earn a living?
5) How did the Americans feel about their being here?
Steps you will be following: In order to plan and create your interview answers, you will do all of the following:
1) Click on this website by scholastic, The American Dream, 1880-1930, follow the arrows and read the information. Be sure to always click on "learn more". As you read, take dash notes, looking for specific evidence/facts to include in your interview.
2) Go to the resources page and "read" the slide show, pausing as you need to take notes.
3) Organize your information, plan, look at the questions, and create your power point.
4) You will want to refer to your notes while creating your power point. You can re-read the article and re-look at the slide show as often as you like.
